instTypeSet option

Hi,

Shouln’t an option be added for the instTypeSet for instruments like automatic samplers? Why not programmed onsite device (pod)?

Hi there - thank you for circling back on this, and major apologies for not getting to it sooner!

The answer to your question, in an effort to be brief, is essentially that the auto sampler, programmed device types, etc. were somewhat implicitly recorded in the sample material and sample type fields. Users also didn’t really request for a separate metadata field for this either beyond what had already been provided.

With that said, with the next major release (not a patch release) the categories list for the instrument type field will be expanded substantially. Currently the list of additions looks like:

  • Core sampling
  • Vacuum sludge sampling
  • Cone-shaped sampling
  • Horizontal grab sampling
  • Vertical grab sampling
  • Passive (trap) sampling
  • Automatic composite sampling
  • Automatic sequential sampling

do you think that this list is adequate, or would adding a category for POD also be beneficial?
